The University Subcontracts Sodexo to Manage Dining Halls

BREAKING NEWS: The University will be subcontracting SODEXO to manage its dining halls starting in September of this year. SODEXO is currently subcontrated at the University Inn and in the last months has fired a substantial amount of undocumented workers with no care for seniority. Before the University accepted to manage the foodservice on campus, SODEXO ran the dining halls without offering health care benefits by keeping the number of full-time employees at a minimum and by not respecting seniority. Dining hall workers report mixed feelings about SODEXO. To learn more about SODEXO and the dining hall workers follow our next postings.

"All across the country, Sodexo employees like me have come together for better conditions like respect, a voice at work, wages that can support our families, and affordable health plans. For too many of us, making ends meet is a daily struggle on Sodexo's low wages--and health insurance is out of reach. I rely on Section 8 to subsidize my housing costs and some of my other coworkers must also turn to government assistance for housing, food stamps, and health care."

US actor Danny Glover and 11 others were arrested Friday at a protest outside the US headquarters of French company Sodexo, which workers accuse of union-bashing and poor working conditions.
